Album Throwback | Lesley Roy
Tuesday, December 29, 2009
Since music at the moment is quite slow, i thought i would post one of my favourite albums that was released back in 2008. The album was two years in the making, from Balbriggan, Dublin pop singer Lesley Roy debut album entitled Unbeautiful by Jive Records. Once i listened to the 13 bittersweet angst-ridden power-pop ballads powerfully melodic vocals and heartfelt lyrics i was pleasantly surprise
d. She is a very promising young artist who is a very talented singer and songwriter with tons of potential. The lyrical content is about heartache and self acceptance which is usual for a teen, however am sure with time she will grow as a songstress and wow us even further. The album opens with the song I’m Gone, I’m Going which is a really great fast hard rocking song. Here For You Now, is another hard rocking song that opens with a memorable guitar solo. Roy’s voice sounds semi-raspy on this song tho a great song nonetheless. Slow Goodbye which was written by Katy Perry is a slower song, but not quite a ballad. The second single, Unbeautiful highlights Roy’s deeper more raspy voice and is a haunting tune questioning when she stopped being beautiful to her lover. Psycho Bitch is a really good song that would could have served as a great single choice. Unbeautiful is an excellent debut record from a really exciting new star although sadly it got released without much notice. This is definetly worth checking out as all the tracks are good and show the dimension of someone who can really sing.
